Year 1 (Play Group)
A student entering the Year 1 class will first begin to adapt to the prepared environment. Daily, weekly and or monthly lessons will be presented to students on age appropriate topics while developing concentration, sequencing, attention span, memory skills, visual and auditory discrimination, socialization, language and coordination. A first year student lays a strong foundation for all academic skills to be presented.

  • Develop their fine and gross motor skills while working with practical life and sensorial materials, threading, beading, pouring and spooning.
  • Enhancing their tactile and visual senses
  • Encouraged to learn using the multi-sensory approach
  • Arts and Crafts, Music, Drama and World Studies are all introduce at this age.



Year 2 (Pre Primary)
A year two student brings in their previous school experience and confidence to the new school year. If a student does not have previous school experience, we present the materials to all incoming students. Here students begin to do more in depth work with letters and numbers and the beginning writing process. The passageway to abstraction begins to unfold. Each student continues to explore activities that provide a creative learning experience.

  • Continuing to work on enhancing fine motor skills and writing work.
  • Daily practical life materials as well as writing exercises
  • Introduced to sandpaper letters
  • Beginning to build three letter words with the moveable alphabet
  • Learn to blend three and four letter words phonetically
  • Introduction to sight words. Is, are, she, he, you. the etc.
  • Using their phonetic knowledge students are introduced to basic reading
  • Recognizing and understanding the values from 1 to 100
  • Number place value units. Tens, hundreds and thousands
  • Introduction to the concept of addition and subtraction by the third term
  • Art, Music, Drama, Science, Gardening and World Studies compliments the daily Montessori work.





Year 3 (Primary)
Usually a student who has been at the school for the first two years will enjoy being Leaders of the school. Incoming new students will be incorporated in the same manner.

Full development of reading and writing skills as well as preparation of skills and confidence to make the transition to a grade 1 class are also addressed. Every child is different but they become more confident and conscious of their knowledge and become ready and excited to make the big change. We do all we can to prepare them to be the best they can be.


  • These are our oldest students with previous Montessori experience. These students and their learning takes place in a progressive manner with Montessori advanced materials to guide them through understanding concepts.
  • Phonics, sight words and learning blends as a continuation to reading becomes priority.
  • Learning phonograms and their key for blending sounds are for their beginning of reading.
  • Continuing to memorizing sets of high frequency words. Understanding them and applying them to basic reading, is a skill we try to have them master.
  • Learning to understand vertical and horizontal addition. Further cement their understanding of the mathematical process.
  • Continuing to work on place value and working with large numbers.
  • Art, Music, Gardening, Science and World Studies continue to be part of their daily work and program.
